ABOUT OUR GRAVES de VAYRES WINES

Technical index card of the Cuvee Elisee "Millesime 2002" Red wine Graves de Vayres Year 2002, like previous years, is an exceptionnal wine. Born from old wine yards - 60% of wine plants "Merlot" and 40% of "Cabernet Sauvignon" - its colour is garnet red. The aromes of fig, black-currant and blackberry are very complex. In mouth, this wine is superb, generous, and has a fine matter. This wine can be tasted from today, after decantation, or forgotten for many years in a cellar.

The Graves de Vayres region, located on the left bank of the Dordogne downstream of Libourne, is famous not only for its fine wines. Vayres is a proud and ancient town, with the terraces overlooking the Dordogne bearing evidence of man's presence there in prehistoric times. The period of the Roman occupation of Gaul saw the widespread planting of wines. After the barbarian invasions, a castle was built on the banks of the Dordogne which, under the lords of Vayres, became a military strong-hold and a symbol a feudal power. This fortified residence, now protected as a historic monument, was one of the main fortresses of Aquitaine and merits detailed study. The name "Graves de Vayres" has been in use since the 19th century, and became an official "appellation" in 1931.

These are the noble varieties of the Bordelais region, namely : - Red wines : Merlot, which derives its subtle fragrance from these gravel soils, yields a round and supple wine. Cabernet Franc contributes delicacy and colour. Cabernet Sauvignon gives the taste of ripe fruits and contributes tannins which ensure a good ageing potential. - White wines : Semilion brings power, delicacy, roundness and generosity. Muscadelle, highly scented, is expressed through its musky scents. Sauvignon is distinguished by great delicacy and pleasant, characteristic, aromas.

This wine is constitued of 44% of wine-plant Merlot, 21% of Cabernet Franc, and 35% of Cabernet Sauvignon.

- The year 2001 has a ruby purple coulour with a spice and floral nose. In mouth, its attack is quite soft but after a few minutes, you feel some oily, brioche-like and rich notes. No contest this wine is vivacious, long, and it can be kept a number of years. We sell it in our shop at 7,47 ¤  . a bottle.

This year it has a straw yellow colour.
A freshness and a perfect harmony can be felt, and this wine is rich and full.
It is constituted of 87% of wine plant Semillon, and 13% of Sauvignon.

Technical index card of the Château Pichon-Bellevue - red Graves de Vayres, year 2002. It is constitued of 60% wine-plant Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon. This year was a real success in Vayres for the Château Pichon Bellevue. The perfumes of blackberry, whortleberry and black currant are noticeable in mouth. This wine is remarkably strong and has a good potential for conservation. It has to be aired for one hour before tasting. We sell it in our shop at 8,54 ¤ a bottle.

Technical index card of the Chateau Pichon Bellevue, white Graves de Vayres. It is constitued of 75% of wine-plant Semillon and 25% of Sauvignon. This year feels good the fresh spring flower. In mouth, its length is wonderful. We recommend to drink it young prefereably with some fish and shell-fish, or at cocktail time. We sell it in our shop at 7,62 ¤   a bottle.

Technical index card of the Château La Pontête, white Graves de Vayres, wine vintage 2003. This wine is made of : 80 % of vine-plant sauvignon, 10 % of vine-plant muscadelle, 10 % of vine-plant semillon. The vintage was a real success in Vayres. This wine feels good the french flowers of spring, and its attack in mouth is excellent. It will be an ideal companion for your meals of shell, of fishes, or as cocktail juice. It is made of 60% vine-plant merlot, and 40% vine-plant cabernet sauvignon. The vintage 2000 shows a somptuous symphony of red fruit, and its attack in mouth is outstanding . What a rich, full, complete wine ! It has to be kept many years in a good cellar and i compare it to the greatest Graves de Vayres. The Château La Pontête in its vintage 2000 is sold in our shop for 8,84 ¤   the bottle.

Technical index card of the Château Toulouze, Graves de Vayres, 2001. It is constitued of 70% of wine-plant Merlot, 25% of Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% of Petit Verdot (very rare wine-plant in Bordeaux). This wine is very pleasant and typical of the Graves de Vayres wines. After airing, it delivers a bouquet of fruit, spices, smoke and violet. It can be kept for many years in a good cellar. Technical index card of the Château Pichon Bellevue Bordeaux rosé, year 2002. This is an attractive wine where Merlot and Cabernet are expressed with strength. Their perfumes sing the red fruit, the pineapple, the mango, the strawberry. The mouth is fleshy, very aromatic and concentrated. We sell it in our shop for 7 ¤

Technical index card of the Cuvée du Baron Charles, Red Graves de Vayres wine. The cuvée Baron Charles is a very severe selection of the oldest parcels of the Château le Tertre. The vintage 2001 has a lovely bouquet of smells of roses and peonies. This lovely wine honours all the district of the Graves de Vayres, and may be forgotten many years in a good cellar. Like the Château le Tertre it is made of 70 % wine-yard Merlot, and 30 % Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet franc wine yard. We sell it in our shop for 11,43 ¤  a bottle.

The Château le Tertre red Graves de Vayres vintage 2000 shows a nice garnet-red dress with some lovely flavours of cherry and mulberry. This wine has to be kept many years. It is made of 70% Merlot vine-plant, and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet franc wine-plant. This attractive wine is sold in our shop for 8,23 ¤  a bottle.

Technical index card of the Château Les Tuileries du Déroc, vintage 2002, red Graves de Vayres wine. This castle, situated close to the river Dordogne, gives a very élégant wine where aromas of rasplery, cherry and liquorice are very tasty in this vintage. It is made of 55% vine-plant merlot, 35% wine-plant cabernet sauvignon, and 10% vine-plant cabernet franc. This wine being drunk to day is very pleasant. However it can be kept in a good cellar during many years. We sell it in our shop for 9 ¤  the bottle.

Technical index card of the Château Montifaut, red Graves de Vayres wine vintage 2002. The Château Montifaut has the same owner as the Château les Tuileries du Déroc. This wine is made of 95 % vine-plant merlot, and 5 % cabernet sauvignon. This vintage 2002 gives a lovely garnet red dress which is soft. Its aromas of liquorice and strawberry are exquisite. This wine can be tasted from now up to five years time. We sell the Château Montifaut for 9 ¤  .

Technical index card of the Château La Chapelle Bellevue Red Graves de Vayres, vintage 2000 Prestige. This wine from a sumptuous soil is a made of 60 % vine-plant merlot, and 40 % Cabernet Sauvignon. The vintage 2000 is exceptional. It has a lovely dress with some shining gleams. The bouquet, very elegant, associates some nice notes of raspberry, black-currant, cocoa and cinnamon. This wine worthy of all the Graves de Vayres has to be kept a few years in a good cellar. Let me give you this advice : do not miss a visit to this lovely "Chapel". This bottle, very well dressed, is sold for 13,42 ¤ in our shop.

Technical index card of the Château La Chapelle Bellevue, White wine, 2001 Prestige. This wine, whith a somptuous pale gold dress is made of 90 % vine-plant semillon, and 10 % vine-plant muscadelle. It shows a lovely bouquet of citrus fruit and an interesting length in mouth. As it spent 6 months in a vak cask, this wine will be royal with fishes, and shell-fishes and very dignified at cocktail time.
